Annual Synod of the EKD in Dresden: Church between crisis and peace!

The Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) opened its annual conference in Dresden today, which is taking place with 128 synods from all corners of Germany. In a time marked by upheaval and crises, the status of the church is a central theme of this year's synod. This will be initiated by a service in the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden, in which the Saxon regional bishop Tobias Bilz will give the sermon Nord24 reports.

Another focus of the conference will be the presentation of a peace memorial next Monday. In addition, coming to terms with sexual violence within the church is an urgent issue. On Tuesday, the Sexual Violence Participation Forum will present its report on the implementation of the action plan to protect against attacks.

A look at the challenges

The challenges facing the EKD are diverse. The synodals want to discuss how the church can survive in today's world and where it should particularly contribute its voice. In view of the social upheavals and the shadow play of cases of violence and abuse, it becomes clear: There is something going on!

The time the synodals spend together will serve not only as a forum for spiritual renewal, but also as a platform to discuss concrete steps for improvement and prevention. The church has recognized that in this day and age it is called upon more than ever to take responsibility.

Technology in the context of the Synod

Especially in this digital era, it is also important to consider modern technologies that can make life and work easier. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app, for example, simplifies the use of applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook with AI-powered functions. Content such as images and videos can be created at lightning speed, which could certainly provide useful support for many synod members, as well as on Office.com is to be read.

With a variety of topics on the agenda, the synod in Dresden will not only tackle the church's current challenges, but also look ahead to the future. It remains exciting to see what impulses will come from this important gathering.
