Towers Hamburg are clearly defeated in Berlin: 74:107 against ALBA!
The Veolia Towers Hamburg suffered a bitter defeat in the second pre-season test match. The Hamburg team clearly lost 107:74 against ALBA Berlin on Sunday evening in the training center in Berlin-Mitte. The first quarter was relatively even, with the Towers only trailing by 24:20, but Hamburg lost their stride in the second quarter.
The Towers defense started with concentration and didn't allow Berlin any points for over three minutes. However, this strong phase could not be converted into a positive game mode. Turnovers in the second quarter led to a glaring 16-point deficit (47-39) at halftime. Coach Benka Barloschky was aware of the importance of his players' health: “It was an exciting test,” he emphasized after the game. Basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief because preparation for the season is in full swing and, as the training methods show, intensive work is being done on the team to get them fit.
The performance of the players
In this test game, Zacharie Perrin particularly stood out by being the top scorer with 11 points and 5 rebounds. But the other players also had their moments, and the statistics show:
- Stewart: 6 Punkte, 2 Assists
- Thorpe: 2 Punkte, 3 Assists
- Rich: 8 Punkte, 4 Steals
- Maronka: 6 Punkte, 3 Rebounds
- Müller: 2 Punkte
- Grey: 7 Punkte, 3 Rebounds
- Wimberg: 7 Punkte
- Edler-Davis: 9 Punkte, 3 Rebounds
- Reed: 10 Punkte
- Turudic: 6 Punkte, 5 Rebounds
- Perrin: 11 Punkte, 5 Rebounds
It was hard to escape Berlin's new additions, especially guards Boogie Ellis and Jack Kayil. Both scored an excellent 16 points, while ALBA's defensive performance was not to be underestimated. Justin Bean and Jonas Mattisseck catapulted themselves into the statistics with a total of 9 steals.
Preparation for the season
Preparation for the new season is extremely important for the players. In order to start the new season optimally, the training initially focuses on increasing fitness. The athletics include strength, endurance and speed training, whereby coordination and playing technique are not neglected. Over the next few weeks, attention will increasingly be drawn to plays and movement sequences. Especially after several intensive weeks, you will be ready to implement what you have learned in the game.
The Towers now have to work on their weaknesses. Their next test match is next weekend against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig in the Oranienburg MBS Arena. A preparatory tournament in Malaga, Spain, is also on the program at the beginning of September at the latest. It's high time to put the mistakes from this test game behind you and prepare the team optimally for the challenges ahead!
We can look forward to future games – the Hamburg basketball scene remains exciting!
