Two serious traffic accidents in Bremerhaven: Three injured!

Today, on July 14, 2025, tragic accidents occurred in Bremerhaven that once again brought the issue of road safety into focus. In the early evening hours, the police were called to a serious motorcycle accident on Cherbourger Strasse around 8 p.m.

At the level of the motorway entrance there was a collision between a 49-year-old motorcycle driver and an Opel that was being driven by a 71-year-old who was about to enter the motorway. The motorcyclist was injured and had to be transported to a clinic after initial medical treatment. Both vehicles were no longer drivable after the incident and had to be towed away. The police have recorded the accident and are now investigating the exact course of events.

Another accident at a popular transport hub

Just a short time later, on Sunday around 5:30 p.m., there was another incident on Fährstrasse. Two cyclists, aged 61 and 69, were driving towards the city center when a driver suddenly opened the driver's door. This careless moment led to a cyclist colliding with the open door, while the other participant fell while trying to avoid it. Here, too, both cyclists had to be taken to a clinic after initial treatment.

These two serious accidents once again raise questions about road safety, and not without reason. According to Destatis, we often receive reports about the road safety situation in Germany. The federal road traffic accident statistics provide comprehensive data on accidents that serve as a basis for legislative and traffic education measures. Current accident events are recorded and analyzed in a structured manner in order to gain important insights for infrastructure and traffic safety policy.

Statistics show a mixed trend

Hesse police. In 2024 there was a slight decrease in traffic accidents there, while the number of seriously injured people fell to 355. However, the number of traffic fatalities has also increased: 25 people lost their lives, including seven pedestrians and four cyclists. This clearly shows that “weaker road users” are particularly at risk and need more attention.

Although the decline in accidents involving alcohol is encouraging, the increase in accidents involving e-scooters calls for caution. It is clear that despite positive developments in some areas, there is still a need for action to increase the safety of all road users. The tragic events in Bremerhaven are a powerful reminder of how important it is to drive ahead and pay attention in traffic.
