A serious accident on Autobahn 1 between Posthausen and Oyten caused a number of traffic delays on Wednesday morning. While the person who caused the accident was seriously injured, two other truck drivers suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, the animals transported remained unharmed.

And as if that wasn't enough, a serious accident also occurred on Autobahn 4 between Elsdorf and Kerpen. According to information from WDR, probably left the road due to a tire blowout, was thrown into a car and finally crashed into the guardrail. Here too, diesel fuel leaked, but the tank containing the loaded sulfuric acid remained intact. The affected soil now has to be excavated and the closure will last into the night.
Both accidents shed light on the dangers of road traffic, especially when it comes to heavy goods vehicles. A look at the statistics shows that around 420 road traffic accidents involving goods vehicles and personal injuries were registered in Germany in 2020. The measures to repair the damage at both accident scenes are time-consuming and require a lot of coordination to ensure the safety of other road users. It remains to be hoped that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
