Dance, art and culture: Bremen highlights from June 17th to 23rd, 2025!

There will be a lot going on in Bremen next week! From June 17th to 23rd, 2025, there are lots of events planned that will ensure a colorful get-together. Whether music, dance, theater or exciting lectures - there is something for every taste here. The Bremen club Swing Man Tau, which has only been active since 2022, invites you to an introductory swing dance course at the Domshof on Tuesday, June 17th from 7 p.m. Both beginners and advanced dancers can try out their dancing skills here. Solo or in a partner look – the main thing is that the rhythm is right! The evening ends at 10 p.m. and promises a wonderful opportunity to dance and make new contacts.

Meanwhile, a benefit concert by the Bundeswehr Music Corps will also take place in the evening for the benefit of the German War Graves Commission. The proceeds are invested in the youth work of the Volksbund. A very special highlight is the exhibition of 440 field post letters from Paul Lefmann, designed by students from the Catholic St. Johannis School, which will also be on display in St. Peter's Cathedral in the fall. Tickets for the concert start at 23.20 euros www.glocke.de.

Creativity and the diversity of life

On Wednesday, June 18th, an improv theater course starts in the Weserterrassen community center, which can be taken without any prior knowledge. Creative minds are challenged over six dates from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. – and the whole thing only costs 60 euros! Registration is possible by phone at 54949-0 or via the website www.weserterrassen.com possible.

But it will also be exciting musically: Students from the University of the Arts, including Minghao Zhang on the oboe and Yu Mita on the violin, will present the orchestra concert “Love and Fate” at 7:30 p.m. The program includes works by Bach, Bernstein and Tchaikovsky. Tickets are available from 10 euros, also over www.glocke.de.

Conversations about the past

Another interesting event is on the program on Thursday, June 19th: the reading “Muslim-Jewish Supper” with Saba-Nur Cheema and Meron Mendel begins at 7 p.m. This will be about identity politics, education and the Middle East conflict. Admission is free, but please register by email demokratiezentrum-isl@sociales.bremen.de is requested. This will be followed at 8 p.m. by a lecture on dealing with Wehrmacht crimes in Brittany - participation is also possible here free of charge.

There are several highlights for art lovers on Friday, June 20th. The exhibition “A Pavilion for the Peace Buddha in Europe” ends at the Botanika; entry is free. In addition, the “Kunst-Voll” project will open at the Kunsthalle Bremen at 3:30 p.m., which will show works by around 300 students from 16 schools until August 10th. Entry costs 10 euros, and access is free for children and young people up to 18 years of age.

Sport and tradition

On Saturday, June 21st, sports enthusiasts can look forward to the 9th Bremen cargo bike race in the Tabakquartier. Participants can demonstrate their skills in five categories; the entry fee is 10 euros. At the same time, the Fête de la Musique and an open day are taking place at the University of the Arts - entry is free and promises a musical celebration!

Sunday, June 22nd, will be dedicated to history. A photo lecture about the Bremen Kaisenhausen begins at 11 a.m. in the Kaisenhaus Museum. Title of the lecture: “From emergency housing to reconstruction”. Admission here is also free, but donations are welcome. In the afternoon, visitors can expect a concert by the shanty choir “Wolken Wind und Wogen” in the Mahndorf community center, also free of charge.

At the end of the week of events, there will be a performance of “Tschick” in the Schnürschuh Theater on Monday, June 23rd. If you would like to reserve the tickets, you can do so by calling 555410. In addition, the photo exhibition “Nude Art in Landscape” by Louis Sauter is being shown at the “artHotel Bremen”, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – entry doesn’t cost a cent here either.

In a city like Bremen, which is characterized by a vibrant culture, these events are likely to be particularly well received. The diversity and creativity of Bremen's residents are not only impressive, they also offer remembrance and reflection on the past. The story of the swing youth, who were in the resistance during the time of National Socialism, shows how important it is to fight for freedom and personal development. In cities like Hamburg, which were a hotspot for swing youth at the time, this movement represented a deviant culture and was heavily persecuted (Deutschlandfunk Kultur). In addition, exhibitions such as “Against Dictatorship - Democratic Resistance in Germany” shed light on the courage and challenges that people had to overcome in these difficult times and which ultimately paved the way to today's democracy in Germany (Bundestag.de).
