Focus on anti-Semitism: Danger for Jews in Germany is increasing dramatically!
In the last two years, the security situation for Jews in Germany has become worryingly worse. This emerges from a current report by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which states that there is a significant risk situation. The Vice President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Sinan Selen, noted in Berlin that the boundaries between legitimate criticism and open hatred and violence are becoming increasingly blurred. Extremist groups are exploiting the conflict in the Middle East to further their ideological goals, while the normalization of anti-Semitic speech is reaching alarming levels. Deutschlandfunk reports 2,225 documented anti-Semitic incidents between October 2023 and December 2024, a number that illustrates the alarming extent.
After Hamas' devastating terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the Jewish community in Germany is experiencing a massive increase in anti-Semitism. The Federal Association of Anti-Semitism Research and Information Centers (RIAS) not only documented an increase, but also describes the situation as “depressing normality”. An average of five events with anti-Semitic content take place every day - impressive compared to just one per day before the Hamas attack two years ago. ZDF points out that the report finds increased networking between various political groups that are coming together against hatred of Jews.
Protests and increasing attacks
The situation is reflected not only in the numbers, but also in the current protests. In many cities, including Munich, people are actively campaigning against increasing hatred of Jews. Nevertheless, Jews report a worrying increase in threats and attacks. The Hamas health authority reported more than 67,000 Palestinian deaths in the Gaza war, which has further fueled the conflict's emotional heat. Tagesschau added that the anti-Semitic incidents in 32 German cities were directly directed against Jewish communities.
The vice president of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution also warned that the upcoming second anniversary of the Hamas attack could potentially trigger a new wave of extremist events. Anti-Israel actors and left-wing anti-imperialist groups are becoming increasingly closely networked, which further increases the feeling of insecurity among Jews in Germany. These developments require society to take a clear stance against any form of anti-Semitism in order to promote and ensure peaceful coexistence.
