Chaos in Cologne: How two single parents fight with a bomb!

In Cologne, viewers slip into the exciting world of the film “A Day of Madness”, which was broadcast on May 27, 2022 during prime time on Erste and is now also available in the ARD media library. The film, a German work from 2021, tells the turbulent story of two single parents who meet on a chaotic day. As already ARD media library reports, Philipp, played by Ulrich Friedrich Brandhoff, and Frederike, played by Mina Tander, have to overcome several challenges at once, while a bomb is found in downtown Cologne.

Frederike, a chef with great ambitions, is under enormous pressure. She has an important test cooking ahead of her for her dream job, but she is still faced with the fact that she cannot go to her apartment. The bomb lockdown forces them to find an alternative professional kitchen. Philipp, who works as a tour guide, also has to face the challenges of his job and juggle the care of his daughter Fritz and Frederike's son Miriam. Together, the two single parents form an emergency community and take responsibility for each other and their children. This certainly chaotic constellation inevitably leads to a bit of romance, and the two characters develop a relationship as they fight through the adversities of everyday life.

Aerial bombs on Cologne soil

The threat of aerial bombs, as discussed in this plot, has remained a frequent problem in German cities in recent decades. Unexploded bombs from the Second World War are repeatedly discovered and have to be defused at great expense. Loud World Around 5,500 of these dangerous relics are defused every year in Germany. Cologne residents know that their city, due to its strategic importance during the war, is faced with many of these time bombs in the ground.

Filming for “An Insane Day” took place in Cologne and the surrounding area until the end of April 2021. In addition to the main actors, Mina Tander and Ulrich Brandhoff, other talented actors such as William Vonnemann and Mia Grace Herold can be seen - a variety that enriches the colors of the story. The script was written by Michael Meisheit and Betty Platz, while Katja Benrath directed.
