The fascinating art trip: exhibition with André Chi Sing Yuen starts!
On May 7, 2025, the Bauhaus Galerie in Mülheim an der Ruhr invites you to a fascinating series of exhibitions, which began with the opening of phase I by media artist André Chi Sing Yuen. This first phase of the exhibition runs until April 12, 2025 and is now being replaced by phase II, which starts on May 3, 2025 with the photo artist Gudrun Kemsa. Kemsa will transform the exhibition by integrating new elements and removing others to realize their own artistic concept.
The final phase III will begin on May 17, 2025 with the Swiss painter Stefan à Wengen. À Wengen will interpret the exhibition concept in its own, unique way. The finals of the entire exhibition is scheduled for May 31, 2025. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visits by appointment are also possible, whereby interested people can contact the phone number 0176/64967207 or the e-mail address bauhaus.gallery@gmail.com.
Stefan à Wingen and the monkey motifs
A remarkable part of the exhibition by à Wengen will be the "Le Singe Peintre" series, which deals with the symbolic role of monkeys in art. In his work, Stefan à Wengen uses portraits of important artists such as Frans Hals, Rembrandt, van Eyck and Bruyn. Here he exchanges heads and hands of these historical figures with those of primates. This creative technology focuses on the topic of imitation and questionable artistic authenticity.
The inspiration for à Wengen could be in a previous work by Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardin, which shows a well -dressed monkey that tries to paint. Chardin created this visual criticism as early as 1740 and describes a monkey that functions both as a thoughtless imitator and stands in a critical context of the art world. The exhibited works by à Wengen, which were created from 2018 to 2020, as well as some unsatients from 2020, deepen the dialogue about the role of monkeys in art and the emotional complexity of creative work.
A look at art criticism
The discussion about the importance of the inherent questions in à Wengens is enriched by the context of art criticism, as explained on
While art criticism plays an important role in art business, there are critical voices that indicate the challenges and responsibility of the critics. The international association of art critics and publications such as the Art Forum International or Portal Art History promote this important field of discussion. This leads to the fact that the relevance and the questions of contemporary artists such as Stefan à Wengen also focus on critical consideration.
