Inheritance conflicts and kitchen dramas: Toni in a quandary!

Family conflicts are the focus of the new film “My mother exists twice”, which was produced in Germany in 2022. The story revolves around Toni Janssen, played by the charming Diana Amft. Toni is at a turning point in her life as she moves out of her parents' house and moves in with her friend Andrina. This represents a major challenge for her mother Heidi, played by Margarita Broich. Heidi has difficulty accepting her daughter's move out and at the same time dealing with the conflict with her sister Claudia, also played by Broich. ARD Mediathek reports that it is Claudia who shows up unannounced and demands her share of her parents' inheritance.

Tensions rise between the twins, once best friends, as a current of jealousy and old conflicts unfold around the family. The restaurant “Tonis”, in which Sebastian Holtmann, played by Lucas Prisor, works as head chef, is particularly exposed to additional pressure. The critic's visit is imminent, and Sebastian is afraid that he won't live up to the high expectations. The restaurant could depend on the taste of the critic, and Sebastian is struggling with his own demands for star-rated cuisine, which Toni has quickly abandoned.

Inheritance disputes and old conflicts

An old inheritance dispute simmers in the background of the emotional story. Aunt Claudia's outstanding bill causes additional tension. It's not just about money, but also about old debts of the pension manager Heidi. Margarita Broich shines in her dual role as Heidi and Claudia and shows that she can master a wide range. In addition to the dramatic plot, the film highlights themes such as security and reconciliation that can be found in so many families.

The film was directed by John Delbridge and written by Christian Pfannenschmidt, who guides the viewer through the intricate relationships and conflicts. “There are two of my mother” dares to outline the complex web of family ties and the challenges they bring with them, thus showing what it means to live in a modern family.

A look at the cast and artistic implementation

The film features a talented cast. In addition to Diana Amft and Margarita Broich, Lucas Prisor can be seen as Sebastian, Nikolaus Benda as Hans-Jürgen and Ramona Kunze-Libnow as Hannelotte Kümpner-Sellendorf. Also there is Nagmeh Alaei as Andrina, who supports Toni when she moves out, as well as numerous other actors who breathe life into the film. The music comes from Michael Beckmann and Tom Stöwer, while the camera work is supported by Christoph W. Poppke.

The theme of family conflicts and their emotional entanglement is not only present in the film “There are two of my mother”. Similar stories, such as those found on Moviepilot, often highlight the tension between the generations, and it remains exciting to see how the relationships will develop in the film.

Fans of the genre can look forward to: The sequel “My Mother and the Rumor Mill” will follow on November 4, 2022, which will hopefully offer equally exciting insights into the family complications.
