Erkelenz: Retirement by urban developer Lurweg marks new start!

Erkelenz: Retirement by urban developer Lurweg marks new start!

On February 1, 2025, the city of Erkelenz made a change in the technical management. The long -time technical deputy Ansgar Lurweg was retired on January 30, 2023 in a solemn ceremony in the Erkelenz town hall. Lurweg, who has worked for urban development for over 24 years, has left a lasting impression. His official appointment dates to February 1, 2001, and during his term of office he accompanied numerous important projects.

The highlights of his career is the construction of the town hall and the realization of the ERKA bathroom. In addition, Lurweg campaigned for school extensions, new daycare buildings and the relocation of affected places in the course of the open-cast mine. Particular attention was paid to the major project "Erkelenz 2030", which aimed at the further development of the city center. He also promoted the city's bicycle friendliness and was involved in its development as a family location.

a new technical deputy

With effect from February 1, 2023, Martin Fauck takes over the position of the technical deputy. He was unanimously elected by the Council, despite two abstentions. In order to fill this responsible position, a personnel agency had searched for suitable applicants and invited three candidates to a conversation. Fauck convinced both the personnel inventing commission and the political factions. Mayor Stephan Muckel emphasized the transparency of the procedure and the broad participation that led to the election.

In his first statement, Fauck thanked for the trust they have placed in them and addressed the responsibility associated with this office. The new deputy is looking forward to actively accompanying and developing both ongoing and planned projects in Erkelenz.

a farewell with recognition

The farewell of Ansgar Lurweg was a solemn event in which the West Big Band maintained musically. A highlight was the storage of a time capsule, which was filled with a subscription to events in the town hall and a squeaker. During the celebration, an entertaining sketch entitled "Lurweg 2040 - Project Future" was listed by his colleagues.

Mayor Muckel, the first deputy Dr. Hans-Heiner Gotzen and treasurer Norbert Schmitz kept warm acceptance speeches and raised Lurweg's influence on urban development. Lurweg himself looked back on the evening and confidently commented on his future projects in retirement.

The mutual support between administration, politics and citizens is essential for urban development, a necessity, which is also due to reports such as that of the Federal Office for Building and Spatial Code is confirmed. The challenges of urban development in Germany require continuous adaptation and strategy development in order to meet the changing needs of society.
