FC Köln under pressure: Britta Carlson as a new women's trainer!

Britta Carlson is the new trainer of the women's team of 1st FC Köln. The 46-year-old has plenty of experience that she gained in ten years as an assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg and as an assistant coach of the German national women's team. Carlson succeeds Daniel Weber, who was released in November. The sporting management has high expectations of the new trainer, which is directly under pressure, to deliver results.

Current seasonal goal of sporting management is a place in the upper third of the table, which corresponds to places six or seven. The 1. FC Köln has reached only five points from twelve games so far and is currently in the twelfth place in the table. The Carlson contract runs until June 30, 2026. Before that, she was an assistant coach of the German women's a national team and has the UEFA Pro coaching license. FC managing director Christian Keller expressed himself positively about Carlson's experience and skills, while Nicole Bender-Rummler highlighted the national and international experience of the new trainer.

Carlson was born in Kiel on March 3, 1978 and played 31 caps for the A-National team of the DFB women, in which she scored four goals. Their successes include the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 and the winning of the European Championship in England in 2005.

In her club career, she played at Hamburger SV, Turbine Potsdam and VfL Wolfsburg, among others. With Turbine Potsdam, she became German champion in 2006 and DFB Cup winner in 2005 and 2006. In her time with the wolves, she achieved numerous successes, including twice the victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and four times the German championship.

The first training session under Carlson will take place on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Geißbockheim, as FC.de reported. Carlson emphasizes that she is looking forward to working with the team and has already made considerations before signing the contract.
