Felsen in danger: Experts warn of fire consequences in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains
The Freiberg geologent team has been investigating the stability of rocks and the dangers that come from the mountains since the devastating fire in Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland in 2022. In order to determine the materials of the sandstone, large -scale fire tests with different temperatures and time duration are carried out. The results obtained from this are crucial for the creation of geotechnical fire models that can calculate the behavior of rocks and rubble through different fire scenarios.
In view of the risks that arise from mass movements, the documentation of the initial state and the changes in rock walls in endangered areas and the assessment of the hazard by experts are particularly important. In the case of new buildings in endangered areas, caution should be possible. Simple structural measures on buildings are often not sufficient due to the large moving masses. IngenieUrgeological detailed examinations are required to precisely estimate the risk situation. In addition, targeted protective fences can increase safety below rock walls and a suitable terrain modeling by leaking or collecting walls. The project is funded by the Free State of Thuringia and the European Union and runs in cooperation with the engineering office for Geotechnik Prof. Witt & Partner and the Trigis Geoservices GmbH, such as reports about it .
