Feeling ship Elbe 1 solemnly back in Cuxhaven - ship parade enthusiastic!
After a elaborate six -month stay in the shipyard, the historic feast ship "Elbe 1" returned to Cuxhaven on April 20, 2025. The return was celebrated with a festive ship parade that started at 2 p.m. and took part in the seven ships and a naval winner. The city of Cuxhaven, which is also the owner of the museum ship, had organized a reception to which the Cuxhaven Shantychor was waiting for the "old love".
The Raf -fi naned general renovation of "Elbe 1" cost a total of 2.5 million euros, of which over two million euros were provided by the federal government and 400,000 euros by the city of Cuxhaven. The shipyard stay included numerous modernization measures: a new bow beam rudder was installed, rusted steel was replaced and the fire alarm systems were brought up to date. The wooden deck from the American pine was also renewed and the ship was given a fire red coating.
The story of "Elbe 1"
The firefighting "Elbe 1" served as a floating lighthouse in the first position in the mouth of the Elbe for over 40 years until it was decommissioned in 1988. During this time it was rammed more than 50 times by other ships, setting a record than the most frequently rammed German feast ship. After its outstanding position, the position is now marked by a red and white lighth barrel.
"Elbe 1" is intended as a full seaworthy museum ship for trips with guests, with the first planned guest trip to Wismar scheduled for June 11th. Visits to the ship should be possible again from June 17th as soon as the feasional ship association has made "clear ship" after the shipyard stay.
