Golden words: Matthias Braun for art for Hellersdorfer Mensahof!
Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Deutschland - On April 4, 2025, the art-am construction competition for the Alice Salomon University in Hellersdorf was decided. The outstanding design of the winner, "Billboard Pavilion" by artist Matthias Braun, will enrich the university community in a special Menschäof of the extension. The quote from Alice Salomon (1872–1948) is inspiring: "To make the World A Better Place to Live in", which is to be designed as an impressive sculpture. This and other details commented on Die Hellersdorfer.
Matthias Braun was able to prevail in a non -open and single -phase competition against nine other competitors: inside. The evaluation of the designs was in the hands of a jury that unanimously chose the winner under the chairmanship of Henrik Mayer. Second place went to Martin Zellerhoff with the concept "swam over it - democracy is fun!" While Susanne Pittroff took third place with "Upstairs, Downstairs". The excellent designs can be viewed online by October 1, 2025.
social responsibility and identity
The draft win was recognized for its strong visual presence and the connection to the identity of the university. The gilded lettering element refers to both the past of the Alice Salomon and the current relevance of its message. The aim of the artwork is to create a connecting element within the university community that appeals not only the students, but also the entire university staff.
The total costs for the implementation of the artwork amount to up to 194,500 euros. This again underlines the significant role of art in public space, which is considered urgently necessary, especially in universities in order to ask questions about cultural responsibility.
works of art in the region
In another example of the connection of art and architecture, Emilia Neumann recently created three sculptures for the Rheinmain Congress Center (RMCC), which will be installed on the lawn in front of the congress center next spring. These are sculptures that deal with the topic of water in a creative way and are concrete colored in the casting. Neumann is an established artist with strong connections to Wiesbaden, and her victory in a non -open competition against seven other artists shows the valuable role that art can play in public space. Details can be found at Wiesbaden lives.
The “Lauda Musica” artwork by Kai H. Krieger, which can be found in the staircase of the extension of the Frauenlob-Gymnasium, is also remarkable. This work of art, the colorful elements and a message of courage combined in the school context, was awarded as part of an art-AM construction competition in the city of Mainz. The jury praised the successful combination of history and modernity, which again underlines the importance of the arts in education. Further information can be found in the Sensor Magazin.
