Green miracle in Furth: The State Garden Show with a big kite!

The city of Furth in the forest is facing an exciting event: On May 22, 2025, the highly expected state garden show begins, which lasts until October 5. Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber (free voters) has already visited the site to check the progress of the preparations. A total of 11.3 million euros were invested in the project, which is the highest amount of funding that was ever paid for a state garden show. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) will take over the opening.

The motto of the state garden show is "experiencing a lot of experience" and promises a variety of offers. Visitors can look forward to gardening and landscaping, a flower splendor, a bee house as well as manual and culinary regional highlights. The preparations include planting around 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees and almost 150,000 perennials and onions. In addition, around 3,000 events are planned to cover a wide range of activities.

the dragon of Furth

A central theme of the garden show is the dragon of the traditional folk acting "Further Dragonstich". This dragon is staged by several special installations, including flower discounts in dragon scale shape and bridge railings in dragon blood red. Particularly noteworthy is a 14 meter long high-tech robot dragon, which will be shown in guided tours. The "dragon stitch" is considered the oldest folk spectacle in Germany and was declared an intangible cultural heritage in 2018.

When the flag was handed over from the State Garden Show 2024 in Kirchheim, the view of the "Further Drachen" fell, called "Fanny" in the vernacular. The largest four -legged screaming robot in the world has impressive dimensions: it measures a width of 4 meters, a height of 5 meters and a length of 20 meters. The impressive specimen was loaded onto a low loader on Sunday and transported to the handover, where it symbolized the handover to Furth in the forest. Tradinno, the dragon, acts as an ambassador for the upcoming garden show.

The effects of the garden show

Mayor Sandro Bauer emphasizes the importance of the event for the city and sees the State Garden Show as a way to upgrade the cityscape. In this context, a new parking arena will also be built while the old festival hall was demolished. In addition, the proximity to the Czech Republic is reflected by bilingual information boards.

In the past 45 years, the Free State of Bavaria has invested a total of around 80 million euros in state garden shows. These investments meant that almost 550 hectares were greened and upgraded in Bavaria. More than 25 million people visited the events, the first of which took place in Neu-Ulm in 1980. The next state garden show is planned for Bad Windsheim in 2027, followed by an anniversary edition in Nuremberg in 2030.

The anticipation for the State Garden Show in Furth in the forest is growing, and the city is preparing to offer visitors an unforgettable experience. With a varied program and the tradition shown by the impressive dragon control, the event will certainly turn out to be a highlight.
