In Saxony there are 1,100 apprenticeships - how companies fail!
Dresden, Deutschland - in Saxony, school leavers are currently facing a comfortable situation, since there are around 9,400 unspecified applicants and around 10,500 open apprenticeships. There are more school leavers than free places. While the difference between supply and demand was up to 3,000 vacancies in the past, 1,200 lessons were reported compared to the previous year, although the number of applicants had almost remained the same. Hansen attributes this phenomenon to general economic uncertainties.
Currently only 17,000 of around 100,000 companies in Saxony form trainees, which corresponds to less than any sixth operation. Hansen emphasizes the importance of investments in the youngsters and criticizes companies that do not participate in the training. He points out that Saxony is still far from the conditions in 2005 when there were 54,000 applicants for 24,000 apprenticeships.
challenges and solutions
The employment agency is preparing for a possible tightening of the situation and looking for new ways to support school leavers. Florian Riedel, professional consultant of the state working agency, speaks of digital aids and speed dating to facilitate the transitions from school to vocational training. Some schools, such as the Dresden Campus Cordis, actively focus on vocational preparation through parents' lectures and close cooperation with companies. The campus offers individual learning paths and enables internships in the 8th and 9th grade.
school leavers can choose from a total of 330 apprenticeships, with a third concentrated on the top 10 professions. The most popular professions include sellers and car mechatronics technicians. In specific industries, such as butchers as well as in concrete and steel construction, the number of free apprenticeships per applicant is high.
