Gifted student saves antique parasol and achieves record price!
In an exciting episode of the popular ZDF program “Bares für Rares” there was once again a real hit to marvel at. The audience was able to watch as a 22-year-old student from Heusenstamm, Hesse, discovered a decorative parasol that was almost 100 years old and was made in the Art Deco style. The parasol, which was originally discovered during her great-grandmother's house clearance, was actually supposed to be disposed of, but the student had a good hand and saw the potential of this unique piece. "Cash for Rares" reported that the expert Wendela Horz estimated the value of the umbrella at 150 to 200 euros, which far exceeded the student's desired price of 50 euros.
Things then went wild in the dealer room! Waldi Lehnertz started with an offer of 80 euros and Markus Wildhagen didn't wait long to immediately increase it to 100 euros. The bidding war between Lehnertz and Wildhagen quickly developed into an exciting competition, which ultimately drove the price to an incredible 390 euros. The student was visibly surprised and delighted by the high sale price, while other sellers also bled for their treasures, like a couple from Hesse who burst into tears when they found out the price of their gold jewelry.
Another highlight from the group
But the decorative parasol wasn't the only highlight of the episode. Another notable piece was a handmade jewelry set consisting of a ring and a bracelet made by Thomas Süßenberg's late uncle for his wife. The expert Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel estimated the value of the set at 4,200 to 4,500 euros, based on the current gold value. Thomas, the 51-year-old candidate, originally wanted to raise 5,000 euros to fulfill his mother's heartfelt wish - a trip.
The jewelry set, adorned with colored stones such as rubies, tourmalines and amethysts, quickly became popular with retailers. Fabian Kahl initially offered 4,000 euros, and the competitors also showed interest. In the end, the jewelry set was sold for 4,650 euros, which was higher than the expert's estimate. Thomas was happy about the deal and was delighted with the unexpected profit.
Emotional moments in the dealer room
The tension and emotions in the show are always a highlight. There was the couple from Hanau who experienced great disbelief when they found out the original price of an emerald ring. Moments like this make “Cash for Rares” a special experience for the viewers and participants.
In times when every cent counts, it turns out that the treasures that are often hidden in your own home can be worth a fortune. Whether it's an antique parasol or a valuable jewelry set, discovering the value is the true appeal of the show. It remains exciting to see which treasures will be presented and auctioned off in the coming episodes.
