Frankfurt trains for hybrid attacks: PRACTICE! Launched in 2025!
In Germany we are currently witnessing a red-hot challenge: the threat of hybrid attacks, which take various forms such as cybercrime and targeted disinformation. These threats are increasing both in quantity and quality, affecting us all. In the future, it will become increasingly clear that state structures and essential infrastructure can be targeted. To counteract this, the Frankfurt am Main fire department has launched a comprehensive exercise that begins today.
Under the title “Civil Protection Exercise” or “ÜB’s! 2025” for short, crisis management and protection against hybrid threats will be tested until July 2nd. This extensive exercise, which involves both municipal facilities and emergency services, will take place throughout Frankfurt. Particular attention will be paid to a real-life exercise on Friday, in which up to 150 participants, including dedicated medical personnel, will take part in a secret area. The details of this exercise will not be disclosed to those involved in advance in order to create the most realistic training framework possible. According to Hessenschau, the goal is to improve the way we deal with threat situations and to make the population aware of the importance of preparation.
A goal for the future
The extensive exercise in three phases not only focuses on crisis management in the authorities, but also includes a large-scale real-life exercise with emergency services and intensive training for the fire department's management staff. “Having a good hand” in these complex situations is essential if an actual crisis occurs. The Hessian Interior Minister Roman Poseck will accompany the exercise on site and see for himself the progress, while the fire department plans to provide insights into what is happening via its social media and provide tips for citizens to be better prepared in everyday life, notes Nachrichten aktuell.
At a time when Russia, China, North Korea and Iran's influence is becoming increasingly noticeable, the discussion about security and protection against hybrid attack strategies is becoming more urgent. The worsening of the geopolitical situation due to systematic disinformation and cyberattacks requires a clear response from the population and the authorities. The Association for Technological and Critical Regulations recommends targeted sensitization of citizens and critical infrastructures in order to take these threats seriously. In the long term, we must prepare our society for these new challenges, as the Federal Office for Civil Protection makes clear.
Overall, the exercise shows how important a well-thought-out crisis strategy is in order to be able to react to increasingly complex threat situations. Great attention is paid to communication and cooperation between the authorities and the emergency services, which is also essential for the safety of each individual. Let's stay attentive and careful, because something is happening!
