Truck accident in Mörlenbach: father and son injured - house wall seriously damaged!
A serious traffic accident shook the tranquil town of Mörlenbach in southern Hesse on Tuesday morning, September 2nd, 2025. At around 6 a.m., a truck with a trailer loaded with around 25 tons of construction rubble crashed into the wall of an empty residential building in a left-hand bend. The 37-year-old driver was on the way from Wald-Michelbach to Mörlenbach when the truck left the road and partially interacted with the wall of the building, which was seriously damaged. According to hessenschau.de, the building suffered a hole in the wall and is now in danger of collapsing.
Fortunately, the driver and his 11-year-old son, who both sustained minor injuries, were able to escape from the driver's cab and were subsequently taken to hospital. The exact circumstances why the boy was traveling in the vehicle are currently being investigated by the investigating authorities. The road administration had the Mörlenbach-Weiher through town closed in both directions in order to give the emergency services unhindered access. A total of 35 firefighters, two ambulances and an emergency vehicle were on site to deal with the situation and use two cranes to rescue the truck, which was about to tip over.
Damage and measures
The amount of damage is estimated at more than 100,000 euros. A structural engineer examined the damaged house, which was then supported by the Technical Relief Agency. After intensive rescue work, the road was finally reopened to traffic from 12:20 p.m.
The situation in the construction industry
Although the effects of the accident in Mörlenbach are worrying, there is also positive news from the construction industry in Hesse. As faz.net reports, the order situation has noticeably improved in the first half of 2025. Incoming orders amount to 3.4 billion euros - almost 25 percent more than in the same period last year. However, there are also downsides: While public and transport construction increased by 14.7 percent, residential construction recorded a decline of 7.1 percent compared to 2024. Thomas Reimann, President of the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs in Hesse, expresses his concern about this development and calls for more living space with fewer requirements.
Safety in the construction industry also remains an important issue with regard to workplace accidents. According to bgbauaktuell.de, the number of reportable work accidents in the construction industry fell to less than 100,000 in 2022, which is seen as progress in occupational safety. Nevertheless, it remains a constant challenge to further reduce the frequency of accidents. Dirk Müller from BG BAU emphasizes that despite the decline, there is a need for further action.
Mörlenbach shows how quickly a seemingly harmless trip can turn into a dramatic incident. The hope remains that the injured will recover quickly and the community will soon return to normality.
