SV Leusel celebrates 100 years – a football festival for the whole family!
On June 22, 2025, the Leusel sports club celebrated its 100th anniversary on the sports grounds on Sielweg in Leusel. In the best football weather, numerous visitors gathered to celebrate the festivities in style. From a colorful supporting program to exciting football games, there was something for everyone.
The celebrations, which began on June 18, included a variety of events. There was a youth football tournament on Saturday that was filled with highly motivated teams and exciting matches. Among the participants were the E-juniors from KSV Baunatal, JFV Alsfeld and others. Ultimately, the team KSV Baunatal I, tied on points with KSV Baunatal II, was able to secure first place with 10 points, followed by JFV Alsfeld and other teams. The placements were:

Exciting interlude games
There were also several games on the program. Particularly worth mentioning was the F-Youth game between Alsfeld/Leuseler Jugend and JFV Homberg, which ended with 2:12 for the latter team. Leusel's chairman, Marco Meier, described the game as lively, but pointed out the obvious exhaustion of some players.
Another highlight was the meeting between the A-youths of JFV Alsfeld and the B-juniors of FC Gießen. Despite the efforts, Alsfeld couldn't keep up and lost 2:9. Giessen, which competed with the strong 2009 vintage, dominated the game, with Alsfeld's first two goals making the game exciting for a short time before Giessen increased the lead to 6-2 at half-time.
A successful celebration
Marco Meier rated the day as very successful overall. He was particularly pleased with the fun and the great atmosphere among the participants and spectators. The anniversary days were well planned, from the children's and disco evening to a commercial evening and a celebratory service followed by a morning pint.
The importance of such anniversaries for local sports clubs should not be underestimated. These celebrations not only offer the opportunity to revive old traditions, but also to attract new members and strengthen the sense of community. The Baden-Württemberg Institute for Sports History offers helpful workshops for anniversary clubs to plan and carry out commemorative publications in order to record the signs of the times.
