Missing in Lich-Langsdorf: Police are asking for information about Jörg Lux!
A missing person case is causing great concern in the Giessen region. On Thursday, July 17, 2025, 64-year-old Jörg Lux from Lich-Langsdorf disappeared. According to a report by news.de It is suspected that Mr. Lux needs urgent medical attention.
He is about 180 cm tall, corpulent, wears a fringe of hair and glasses. Information about his clothing is not yet known, but he has a preference for clothing from the “Engelbert Strauss” brand. He was last seen in his silver Skoda Kodiaq with registration number GI-VE 1961. Police are appealing to the public to come forward with information if anyone has seen Mr Lux or his vehicle since midday on July 17th. Anyone who knows anything should contact the Grünberg police station directly on 06401/91430 or any other police station.
The number of missing person cases is increasing
This incident is not the only one of its kind. In recent years, the number of missing person cases in the Giessen region has increased significantly. In 2016, police registered around 300 missing persons cases, while this number increased to 381 in mid-October 2024. Police spokesman Pierre Gath emphasizes that every case is examined carefully, regardless of the age of the people concerned. Of the 381 cases, about 38 were still classified as open at the end of 2024, showing that disappearances are a serious problem.
The reasons for the disappearance are varied. They range from arguments with relatives to psychological problems and a loss of orientation. What is particularly worrying is that many of these cases involve unaccompanied minor refugees living in institutions. For adults, certain criteria must be met in order to be considered missing: leaving the usual circle of life, an unknown whereabouts and a potential danger to life and limb. The police always assume that children and young people are at risk as soon as their whereabouts are unknown.
The dangerous meaning of time
The police know that every minute counts when it comes to missing persons. Therefore, the search is often organized from the “inside out”. This means that the familiar room, such as your own apartment or facility, is combed first. The officials are supported by the fire department, rescue workers, THW and various technologies such as drones and helicopters with thermal imaging cameras. Modern tools such as smartphone tracking and monitoring of account movements are also used. Relatives have a significant role as they must provide up-to-date information and images of the missing person to facilitate the search.
It remains to be hoped that Mr. Lux will be found safely and that other missing people in the region will be able to return to their usual living conditions as soon as possible.
