Hesse celebrates big in Berlin: tradition, enjoyment and political prominence!

The Hessenfest in Berlin attracted over 2,000 guests to the Hessian state representation at Potsdamer Platz on a mild summer afternoon. Prime Minister Boris Rhein had the honor of opening the festival, which has been taking place in the capital for almost 25 years - with an interruption during the corona pandemic. Rhein emphasized Hesse's diversity, which is expressed through innovative companies in areas such as logistics, pharmaceuticals and financial services. Political celebrities also made an appearance, including Bundestag President Julia Klöckner and numerous federal and state ministers, who gave the event a shine.

Of course, the culinary offerings couldn't be missed. Guests were able to enjoy traditional Hessian specialties such as Handkäs' and Ahlewurscht. The “Hessen kebab” was particularly noteworthy: a creative composition of meat sausage with sauerkraut, served in flatbread, which was guaranteed to provide many taste surprises. Hessian wine was also represented - in the garden of the state representation there is a vineyard with around 200 vines, including Riesling and Pinot Noir, which are harvested annually and processed into delicious “Rotling”. In the spring of 2023, two apple trees were also built, the fruits of which may one day be processed into delicious Ebbelwoi.

Networking and cultural exchange

The Hessenfest is not only a culinary highlight, but also an important place for networking. Around 80 Hessian companies and institutions showed their product range and made valuable contacts. The festival aims to strengthen Hessian identity in the federal capital and serves as a platform to represent Hessian interests and follow federal political developments. The state representation acts as the embassy of Hesse and creates numerous opportunities for exchange and encounters.

The guests also included representatives from international diplomacy. The Ambassador of Ukraine H.E. Oleksii Makeiev, was one of the prominent attendees, as were numerous other ambassadors. The Soul Rockers and DJ Tobias Radloff from Radio FFH provided musical accompaniment, offering the guests an unforgettable experience.

The Hessenfest has grown over the years and has established itself as one of the largest events in Berlin. It is particularly important that the Hessian Minister for Federal Affairs, Manfred Pentz, praises it as it serves as a forum for cultural diversity and exchange between Hesse and international partners. Especially in times of global challenges, it is important to maintain good relationships and networks.

Preparations for the next Hessenfest are already in full swing, and the state representation is looking forward to continuing to offer guests an insight into Hessian culture and hospitality in the future. The anticipation of the Hessian specialties and the convivial atmosphere is already palpable - it will be exciting to see what the celebrations have in store for next year.
