Kassel celebrates: Fernando Traber floats across the square as Santa Claus!
In Kassel, the anticipation of the Christmas season is already palpable, while high wire artist Fernando Traber has made preparations for his spectacular appearance as flying Santa Claus. The first preparations began in October, when Traber stretched a 10 mm thick rope across Friedrichsplatz, which stretched from the roof of a department store to a pole in front of the Fridericianum hessenschau.de reported.
Traber, who delights the region and beyond with his unique act, has been flying over the city in his sleigh as Santa Claus for the past two years. His new challenge is to fly from City Point to Königsplatz every day - a distance he covers at speeds of up to 60 km/h. This extraordinary performance is awaited with great anticipation and is part of the festive activities that enliven the region during the run-up to Christmas.
Christmas market opening and festive atmosphere
The opening of the Kassel Christmas market is scheduled for November 24th, and the signs couldn't be better. Mayor Sven Schoeller praised the festive atmosphere created by the smells of mulled wine and the happy faces on the square. On the opening day, however, the temperatures of 15 degrees were a little too warm for the popular punch, but that didn't stop visitors from enjoying the Christmas atmosphere.
Particularly important is the fact that after landing at Königsplatz, Traber has to fly straight back to the roof of the Galeria in order to prepare for the next performance. The showmen and business people at Königsplatz are enthusiastic about this additional animation, which brings the Christmas market to life. Frank Rohde, boss of Samen Rohde, describes the development as positive, while mulled wine seller Holger Berger notes an improvement in the quality of the place.
A logistical masterpiece
But it's not just the flying performances that cause excitement. The entire assembly and dismantling of the impressive rope represents a logistical masterpiece that Fernando Traber and his team mastered with flying colors. After all, the number with the reindeer sleigh has been valued as the highlight of the pre-Christmas season in Kassel for years. The festival promises exciting moments, which will also be provided by a wind ensemble from the University of Kassel to further heat up the Christmas spirit.
An important innovation this year is the new fairytale village at the obelisk, which is supported by federal funds. After the opening, Mayor Schoeller and other guests were able to get an impression of this new attraction.
With all of these exciting events, the Kassel Christmas market is well on its way to becoming an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Whether it's sipping mulled wine or listening to the music - the mood is definitely festive!
