Construction technician in Alsfeld: The path to successful self-employment!
On June 30, 2025, an informative information event on starting a business in the construction industry took place at the Alsfeld State Technical Academy. This was organized by the Virtual Start-up Center Schwalm-Eder (VGZ), the Kassel Chamber of Crafts (HWK) and representatives of the regional construction industry. A total of 23 aspiring state-certified construction technicians took part in this event, which offered them valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of self-employment. The speakers at the event, including Martin Broszat from HWK Kassel, Patrick Richardt from Richardt-Bau, and Tanja Damm from VGZ Schwalm-Eder, shared their experiences and gave useful tips for becoming self-employed.
Patrick Richardt took the opportunity to describe his personal career. Thanks to the support of VGZ and HWK, he was able to successfully start his own business. These stories and testimonials led to numerous practical questions from participants, which promoted important interaction and exchange during the event. Information and further advice is also available to those interested on the VGZ Schwalm-Eder website: www.vgz-schwalm-eder.de.
The Virtual Startup Center Schwalm-Eder
The VGZ Schwalm, now known as VGZ Schwalm-Eder, was launched at the beginning of 2025 and supports start-ups in numerous areas. Be it access to financing or making contacts – the VGZ offers a comprehensive range of advice. Weekly consultation days offer free advice, although registration is required. The VGZ motto, “Every idea is worth discussing!”, illustrates the commitment to putting creative thoughts into action.
The expansion of the VGZ to the Schwalm-Eder district now includes 21 cities and municipalities. These include Edermünde, Felsberg and Melsungen. Through numerous networking events and founder meetings, aspiring entrepreneurs can further develop their ideas and make valuable contacts. In addition, a team of consultants is available to support the development of viable business models and the creation of business plans.
Further support for start-ups
If you want to start your own business, you will also find comprehensive support at the employment agency. This offers advice and information on start-up grants, which can be granted under certain conditions. The start-up seminars that are regularly organized by chambers are particularly important. Here, aspiring entrepreneurs learn everything they need to know about rights, obligations and creating a business plan.
In order to be prepared for the initial phase, it is advisable to insure yourself against possible unemployment. Voluntary contributions to unemployment insurance can help stabilize fluctuating income in the start-up phase. Those interested can request consultation appointments online or by telephone. The employment agency can be reached from Monday to Thursday.
The existing advisory services, whether at the VGZ or the employment agency, are a real plus for anyone who wants to get started with a business idea. It's worth taking advantage of the opportunities and perhaps establishing your own business in the region.
