Fulda celebrates the summer of concerts: almost 60,000 visitors to the Domplatz event!

The Domplatz concerts in Fulda ended last Saturday evening and the city is drawing a very positive balance. With almost 60,000 visitors, the event was only slightly below the record from the previous year, when 65,000 music fans flocked to the Hessian city. On average, around 8,500 guests attended each concert on the picturesque cathedral square, which underlines the popularity of the concerts. Among the particularly sought-after performances were greats like Roland Kaiser and Bryan Adams, whose shows were sold out months in advance. Santiano and Johannes Oerding also ensured that the audience was tightly packed, as the maximum capacity of 10,000 guests was almost reached at some concerts.

“The Domplatz concerts have been established for almost three decades and have become an integral part of Fulda,” said Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld. “These events have enormous cultural significance for our city,” he further emphasizes. The positive outcome of this year's concert series increases anticipation for the upcoming events.

Outlook on upcoming events

Planning for next year is already in full swing. As part of Hessentag 2026, which will take place from June 12th to 21st, big names such as Peter Maffay and Sarah Connor have been announced on Cathedral Square. Maffay will perform twice, on June 21st and 22nd, with the additional concert on June 22nd already sold out. A gala evening by the musical company spotlight on June 12th will also provide variety in the concert series.

A study by GEMA shows the influence that the increasing interest in large live events has on the entire concert landscape, which found an increase in large concerts (over 5,000 visitors) of over 50% compared to the previous year. Despite this positive development, there are some challenges. Small concerts, which make up 90% of events, have not yet been able to fully recover from the effects of the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, the festival and concert industry is showing a positive trend overall.

Cultural revitalization of the region

The Domplatz concerts are not only a musical highlight, but also promote social interaction and the cultural identity of the region. The city of Fulda is a lively venue that attracts a wide audience through such events. This is confirmed not only by the high number of visitors, but also by the positive response from artists and city residents, who are happy to come back.

How nice that the coming months promise so much culture - because you simply can't resist good music!
