Telekom increases prices: Millions of customers will have to pay more from November!
From November 2025 there will be noticeable price increases for millions of Telekom customers. The provider justifies this step with falling user numbers due to outdated voice tariffs. Customers who use tariffs such as Call Plus, Call Start and Call Comfort are particularly affected. These telephone-only connections, which have not been marketed for many years, represent a challenge, especially for seniors and older users who generally only want to make phone calls. The price increases are between 2.50 and 3 euros per month; in the future, customers will have to pay at least 23.95 euros per month for a telephone-only tariff. In comparison, cheaper mobile phone flat rates with unlimited calls are available from just 5 euros, which means savings of up to 19 euros per month.
Telekom will inform the affected existing customers of the adjustments in a timely manner by letter or email. This approach is part of a broader strategy that also includes price adjustments for new customers, who have had to pay one euro more for all combined Internet tariffs since October 1st. Vodafone also has something like that Mercury reported that the conditions for cable tariffs were raised on September 29th, which resulted in additional price increases.
From founding to privatization
Deutsche Telekom, which originally emerged from the Deutsche Bundespost, has an eventful history. Since its founding in 1947 as the successor to the Reichspost, it has developed into one of the largest telecommunications providers in Germany. The division of the Deutsche Bundespost as part of a postal reform in 1989 led to the creation of Deutsche Telekom AG, which was privatized in 1995. Until then, it was the monopolistic provider of Internet services in Germany.
Telekom has undergone a significant transformation, from providing basic telephone connections to merging with other large international organizations and developing digital products. For example, T-Com merged with T-Online in 2005, and the merger with Sprint in the US was completed in 2020.
Tips for customers and users
In order to keep track of the best possible contracts, it is worth making a regular comparison. In this way, users can ensure that they do not spend a lot of money unnecessarily when cheaper alternatives are already available. This doesn't just happen to existing customers; New customers also have to deal with the fact that prices are rising in this area.
Finally, it should be noted that with Telekom's price increases and the adjustment of prices by other providers, many customers - not just in Cologne - are faced with the question of how they can best respond to them in order to survive the coming months without unnecessary additional costs.
