Construction work at the Paul Maar School: New life for Nidderau oaks!
Something is happening in Nidderau-Eichen: Work on the Paul Maar School has begun! The first groundbreaking ceremony was held under the eyes of First City Councilor Rainer Vogel, Head of School Jannik Marquart, District Administrator Thorsten Stolz and Headmaster Susanne Croce. The big goal? The school is to be developed into an all-day school as part of the all-day pact. The Main-Kinzig district is investing an impressive 5.5 million euros to significantly expand the existing premises. The students will also soon benefit from the new offerings, as the planned usable space will be almost twice as large as before.
Before the shovels went deep into the ground, foundation work and a crane were already in progress. Two construction phases are planned, which are quite challenging. The first construction phase includes an extension with two new classrooms, which will be ready for occupancy in the second half of the school year. In the second section there is an extension with a modern kitchen, cafeteria and further ancillary rooms. To this end, the sanitary facilities and the school administration rooms will also be adapted to the new needs. District Administrator Stolz announced in his speech that a total of 240 million euros would be invested in school construction over the next five years.
Diverse offerings for students
There are new things not only in the building, but also in everyday school life. There has been a very special four-legged friend at the Paul Maar School for a long time: Ava, a little Münsterländer who was born in March 2022. With her weight of around 19 kilos and a shoulder height of 52 cm, she not only brings joy to the classroom, but also promotes the learning atmosphere. The presence of a dog is known to have positive effects on students. As studies show, this improves motivation to learn and strengthens social skills, which also promotes the classroom atmosphere. Ava can also act as an “icebreaker” for reserved children and calm impulsive students.
The children love spending time with Ava. Whether in class, where she relaxes on her dog blanket, or at break, where she goes for a walk with the students - her playfulness and curiosity are simply contagious. The students take the opportunity to read to her or do tricks with her. This not only promotes reading and language skills, but also brings a bit of joy into the school building.
Better conditions for future generations
Another reason to be happy is that the city council has instructed the magistrate to start negotiations on a “sibling discount” in childcare. This could help many families in the region to reduce their care costs and thus improve the balance between work and family.
Overall, it shows that there is a lot going on in Nidderau-Eichen. The Paul Maar School is not only a place of learning, but also a center that wants to set the district's future generations on their path with love and a good hand. The needs of children and parents are consciously taken into account here, not only in the structural design, but also in dealing with their very special companions - be it Ava or the future school dog.
