Kids in the region awarded: This is how the Main-Kinzig district ensures healthy teeth!

Today an important signal for oral health is being set in the Main-Kinzig district: On the occasion of “Dental Health Day”, numerous daycare centers and day care workers were honored for their commitment. The Main-Kinzig district honored a total of 22 daycare centers and 11 daycare workers with the “all-round oral health facility” certificate. This award highlights the importance of oral health for children in the affected institutions and shows how important it is to teach young people about healthy dental care from the very beginning. In the region, this initiative is a clear step towards promoting health and well-being in the early childhood years. erlensee-aktuell.com reports that the Working Group for Youth Dental Care Main-Kinzig-Kreis (AKJZ) has been introducing this certification program in Hesse since 2014 and that some facilities were awarded for the first time this year.

What exactly is behind this certification? The basis is the Hessian concept of group prophylaxis “Five Stars for Healthy Teeth”. It includes various criteria such as training for professionals, the promotion of water or unsweetened tea, a “chewing” breakfast and daily tooth brushing. The AKJZ and the Main-Kinzig District Dental Service regularly check these criteria to ensure that the facilities actually take the oral health of their protégés into account. Almost every fifth facility in the district is already following this successful concept. This year, six daycare centers received their first award, while 16 additional facilities were successfully re-certified.

This year, nine childcare workers were also pleased to receive the new “all-round healthy childcare center” certificate. These include Ivonne Alf from Langenselbold and Christina Stiehler from Gelnhausen. The commitment of these professionals is crucial to providing children with a healthy environment and educating them early on about dental hygiene and healthy eating. The goal remains clear: all children should grow up with healthy teeth, regardless of their origin.

A look beyond the borders

The principles of group prophylaxis are known far beyond Hesse. bzoeg.de reports that the German Association for Youth Dental Care (DAJ) represents the concept at the federal level. In schools and daycare centers, dentists and specialist staff implement various measures that help raise awareness of oral hygiene among children and young people in their usual environment. Around 13,000 actors make a valuable contribution here. It is pleasing to see that around 77 percent of all kindergarten and primary school children are reached once a year, thus ensuring the oral health of offspring and future generations.

The AKJZ is available to offer individual information and support to all institutions in the Main-Kinzig district that are also interested in certification. Contact persons can be reached both by telephone and by email.
