Police catch package thief in Wiesbaden: almost 100 smartphones stolen!

There are currently many headlines in Hesse that are both encouraging and worrying. The focus is particularly on exciting events and some less pleasant incidents. The police have solved a series of package thefts in Wiesbaden. Since March 2024, almost 100 smartphones have been stolen, with a 31-year-old parcel delivery driver being arrested. The damage amounts to tens of thousands of euros. Tagesschau.de reports that…

But it's not just crime that concerns the people of Hesse, art and culture are also not neglected. The Rheingau Music Festival starts on Saturday in the picturesque Eberbach Monastery. This year, visitors can look forward to a top-class program, including performances by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, which will perform with the octobass, the largest string instrument in the world. With over 170 concerts, a variety of performances will be offered until September 6th. If you would like to be there, you can order the festival program for 2025 in print form. In addition to information about concerts, focus artists and venues, digital versions of the magazine are also available online. Full details can be found on the festival website...

Cultural highlights and planned measures

While the music culture is well received, Frankfurt is planning to make the city center more pleasant. Around 60% of the population thinks mist showers make sense on hot days. In this context, 500,000 euros have already been earmarked in the supplementary budget to set up such showers and reduce temperatures in the city. A measure that will certainly be well received by residents.

Another event that appeals to singles between the ages of 30 and 40 is the travel dating show “City of Love,” which is also offered in Frankfurt. Anyone interested can apply until June 29th and perhaps find the love of their life.

Various accidents and their consequences

Unfortunately, not all the news is positive. There have also been serious incidents in the last few days. A truck accident on the A7 resulted in a minibus driving into a truck, causing seven people to suffer minor injuries. The exact cause of the accident is currently unclear, but the material damage amounts to around 50,000 euros. A drunk driver was also involved in an accident in Neu-Isenburg, leaving a field of debris on the road. The alcohol content was alarmingly high at over two per thousand, and the damage is estimated at around 40,000 euros.

The drowning case at Langener Waldsee, where a 22-year-old man died during a day of swimming with friends, was also tragic. Unfortunately, all rescue attempts were unsuccessful. Such incidents are thought-provoking and call for caution.

Although the news situation is mixed, the anticipation for cultural highlights such as the Bad Hersfeld Festival and the Bad Homburg Open, where stars such as Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek will be playing, remains unbroken. Tennis fans can hope for exciting matches until June 28th.

The events in Hesse show how diverse life is in the region - between culture, crime and unfortunate incidents, it remains exciting. Stay tuned for more news affecting our state.
