New business center in Altenstadt: What the plans for the future bring!

Something exciting is happening on the outskirts of Altenstadt: a new business center with various facilities is to be built. These plans have now been officially announced and were made available for inspection in the town hall on June 23, 2025. Specifically, the location between the B 521 and Frankfurter Straße is intended to become the new hub for the community. The planned facilities include a grocery store, a medical center, a retirement community and several apartment buildings.

The food market will be located in a three-story building and cover a maximum area of 1,600 square meters. The upper floors will include a retirement home and day care. Eight three-story apartment buildings are to be built in the southern area of the site, which covers more than 34,000 square meters. A parking garage in the middle of the area will create additional parking options. There are also plans to build a roundabout at the junction of the L 3189 to improve traffic flow.

Concerns and discussions

As nice as that sounds, there are also some critical voices. While the food market is generally met with approval, concerns are raised about the protection of high-quality arable land. Karl Ventulett from the Green Party expressed concerns about soil quality as part of the environmental impact report. This issue was also taken up by Martin Kirchner from the FDP, who criticized the Greens for not showing the same concern with other construction projects on farmland. Lucia Brush from the FWG referred to similar projects that have so far been implemented without much fanfare, while Sven Müller-Winter from the CDU emphasized the long-term benefits of the project for the infrastructure.

The majority of community representatives voted in favor of disclosing the land use and development plan. Citizens now have the opportunity to submit their comments until July 25th. In this context, it is important to observe the legal provisions in the Building Code (BauGB), which regulate the procedures for drawing up, supplementing or changing building plans. Among other things, a comprehensive environmental assessment is carried out to assess the potential impacts on the surrounding area. As [altenstadt-vg.de](https://www.altenstadt-vg.de/buergerservice-politik/rathaus/ihr-anlegen/detail/flaechennutzsplan-und-bebauungsplan-oeffentlichkeits-und-behoerden participation-57337) further explains, citizens and authorities are involved in the process at an early stage in order to submit their suggestions.

The view

The next step in this process is the adoption of a corresponding statute, which is scheduled for October 2025. If everything goes according to plan, development work and construction of the area could begin as early as the middle of next year. The plans open up numerous opportunities for Altenstadt residents to improve the quality of life and strengthen the local infrastructure. In this context, clear communication and transparency from the municipality is essential to gain the trust of citizens.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to find out about the plans and contribute their opinions at the town hall between June 23rd and July 25th. After all, it's about the future of Altenstadt, and everyone should have a say!

In summary, it can be said that the new business center is an important step in the right direction, but the challenges must not be lost sight of. It remains to be seen how the process will develop.
