Kesselbach returns: Renovation at Bülowplatz started today!

A fresh wind is blowing through Wiesbaden: The “Bäche ans Licht” project is being launched at Bülowplatz, making the square a real eye-catcher. The underground Kesselbach, which many had perhaps already forgotten, is being brought back to the surface. How rheinmainverlag.de reported, construction work will begin today, November 3, 2025. Exciting new elements are planned that will change the cityscape.

The first steps have already been taken: In this first construction phase, the necessary investigations for the route of the Kesselbach pipeline are being prepared. The actual construction work will begin in mid-January 2026 and is expected to be completed in summer 2026. The gully will be built along Seerobenstrasse and the sidewalk must be closed during this time. But don't worry: the pedestrian crossing remains accessible.

New life for Bülowplatz

The goal of the city of Wiesbaden is to make piped streams, such as the Kesselbach and the Wellritzbach, visible again. In total there will be eight open stream sections with a total length of approximately 1,000 meters, including central locations such as the oldest square, Sedanplatz, and the Blücherschule, like it wiesbaden-leben.de describes. Bülowplatz is all about uncovering the Kesselbach, which will give the square a new look.

The redesign not only includes a new water channel, but also a planted interior area. Half of the space will be landscaped with shrubs and perennials, while all existing trees will be retained. Seating areas at the water inlet and outlet were also planned for residents. The residents' suggestions were incorporated into the planning, which shows that the citizens' wishes were taken into account.

Future plans and citizen participation

Part of the plans were only presented on October 30th, when the citizens of Westend were invited to submit their ideas for the redesign of Sedanplatz. From summer 2025, the water from the Kesselbach will flow through a new fountain on Sedanplatz and further enrich the district. The entire project will be implemented in close collaboration between the Parks Department and the Environment Agency to ensure that it meets both ecological and aesthetic requirements.

This large-scale campaign brings a piece of nature back into the city. The people of Wiesbaden can look forward to a lively Bülowplatz, which will not only be a place for relaxation, but also an attractive meeting place for young and old.
