Shots fired in front of an apartment building in Wiesbaden – woman remains uninjured!

On the night of Sunday, June 29, 2025, there was a disturbing shooting in front of an apartment building in Wiesbaden. An unknown male perpetrator opened fire several times in the direction of a resident who was about to open the front door at that moment. Luckily she was uninjured. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Hollerbornstrasse. After the exchange of fire, the man fled in a white station wagon while the police launched an immediate investigation, which has so far been unsuccessful. The criminal police have taken over the investigation and are asking the public for support. Information can be reported by calling (0611) 345-0, as the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

A description of the perpetrator is also available: He is around 1.75 meters tall, of strong build with a belly and was wearing a black balaclava and matching dark clothing. The incident has not only shocked the immediate neighborhood but also raises larger questions about security in the area. Although violent crimes account for less than four percent of all crimes recorded by the police in Germany, statistics show that they have a major impact on citizens' sense of security.

Current negative developments

Wiesbaden has not only been affected by this incident in the last few days. On June 28, an altercation occurred during the City Marathon in which two security guards were attacked by unknown men. A 28-year-old employee suffered a beating, while a colleague's T-shirt was torn. The perpetrators described themselves similarly to the shooter, with one of them having a muscular, southern appearance and short black curly hair.

And that's not all: On June 27th, a hairdressing salon in Wiesbaden reported a break-in. The perpetrators broke into the salon in the early hours of the morning, but were unable to complete the crime and fled with an estimated property damage of 500 euros. Here too, the police are asking for information that can be given at the same telephone number.

A look back at violent crime

These serious incidents are part of a worrying development. According to Statista, the number of reported violent crimes in Germany has recently increased. Around 217,000 acts of violence were recorded in 2024, the highest number since 2007. Factors such as economic uncertainty and social stress could lead to this increase. It is also frightening that around 2,740 acts of violence against rescue workers were recorded in 2023 - a number that, based on the experiences of recent years, is extremely alarming.

In view of these developments, the question arises as to how society and state institutions can react to them in order to strengthen citizens' sense of security. The violent clashes that are increasing in various places should not lead to a habituation to violence. It is high time to ensure clarity and stability before the situation escalates further.
