Scandals in the capital: beatings, arguments and police operations!

The last few days in Cologne have been marked by a number of violent disputes, some of which led to police investigations. According to information from Borken newspaper Police are now investigating three men and a woman who were involved in various violent incidents. In one particularly notable case, an 89-year-old woman has come under suspicion after hitting two boys on the hands with a wooden stick. The two children, 8 and 9 years old, had dared to climb the woman's property wall, which she obviously didn't like. The police are taking the incident very seriously and are investigating grievous bodily harm.

But that's not the only incident that's causing a stir. Another argument in an apartment building escalated when a 57-year-old attacked his 48-year-old neighbor with a square steel pipe. The reason for the aggression was rather trivial: the 48-year-old had urinated in the garden. The consequence: The injured neighbor had to go to the hospital with minor injuries. Here too, the 57-year-old is being investigated.

Dispute over convertible

A third, equally strange incident occurred near a higher-priced convertible. A 63-year-old leans against the vehicle with his forearms, which caused the 35-year-old driver to become very angry. After a short argument, the younger man pushed the older man away from the car, whereupon he kicked in the driver's door. This escalation ended in the 35-year-old attacking the 63-year-old, whom he knocked down and held on the ground until the police arrived. The police are now investigating both men: the 63-year-old for damage to property and the 35-year-old for bodily harm.

The violent situation in Germany

These incidents are part of a worrying trend in Germany, as recent statistics show. Loud Statista Violent crime remains a significant issue. Although it accounts for less than 4% of total crimes, it has a strong impact on the population's sense of security. In 2024, around 217,000 violent crimes were registered, the highest number since 2007. After all the work that was done after the Corona peak, it is clear that the number of violent crimes has been increasing again since 2021, by almost a third compared to the low point during the pandemic. Many experts attribute this increase to social pressures and economic uncertainty.

The Federal Criminal Police Office feels optimistic despite these challenges, as it is increasingly possible to solve acts of violence. In 2024, around 75% of cases were successfully resolved. Nevertheless, the numbers are frightening, especially the increasing numbers of young people and children suspected of crimes, which have increased by 11.3% in recent years. Possible causes lie in the psychological stress that many children and young people have experienced as a result of the Corona measures.

All of these incidents and the sharp increase in violence have caused concern not only in Cologne, but also in other cities in Germany. It remains to be hoped that preventative measures and social support can strengthen citizens' sense of security and prevent acts of violence in the future.
