Wiesbaden: Boil drinking water due to bacterial contamination!
In Wiesbaden, citizens have to boil their drinking water until further notice, as [FFH](https://www.ffh.de/nachrichten/hessen/wiesbaden/449350-leitungswasser-in-wiesbaden-muss-vorerst-abgekocht- Werden.html) reports. The reason for this precautionary measure is the discovery of “bacteriological contamination” during routine examinations at a network measuring point in the city center. The health department ordered this measure, even if other samples nearby were unremarkable.
The Wiesbaden water supply companies WLW and ESWE Liefer AG call for tap water to be boiled before use. To ensure that the water can be used safely, it should be brought to a rolling boil and then cooled for at least ten minutes.
Health risks in view
The issue of water quality is not just a local issue. According to information from the Umweltbundesamt, pathogenic microorganisms can have health consequences that go far beyond simple complaints. In Germany, pollutants in drinking water have been kept at safe concentrations for decades, but long-term effects can still lead to illness. Therefore, regular tests and checks are of utmost importance.
The situation in Wiesbaden illustrates the importance of drinking water protection. Well-filtered and disinfected drinking water usually does not contain any pathogens. However, concerns about possible contamination remain, and the health department has therefore issued the boil water regulation in order to protect the population.
In times like these, when the quality of drinking water cannot be guaranteed, it becomes clear how important it is to be informed about your own water resources. Anyone who turns on the tap should now pay particular attention to safety and boil the water accordingly to avoid health risks.
