Free live TV: Joyn extends offer by 14 Bavarian transmitters!

Bayern, Deutschland - joyn, the popular streaming service of ProSiebenSat.1, has significantly enlarged its offer. From now on, users in Bavaria can access 14 new local and regional transmitters free of charge. This expansion aims to diversify the live TV offer and to provide more regional content.

The newly added broadcasters include Allgäu.tv, Augsburg.tv and Franconia Television. Munich.tv and nationwide broadcasters such as TV Mainfranken and TV Upper Franconia are now part of the Joyn portfolio. This initiative is implemented in cooperation with the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) and shows the endeavor of Joyn to support the local media landscape.

positive feedback from the industry

The CEO of JOYN, Katharina Frömsdorf, underlines the continuous development of the free live TV offerings and emphasizes the importance of regional content. Dr. Thorsten Schmiege, the President of the BLM, is pleased with the availability of the local TV channels on Joyn and sees this as a profit for the spectators.

Before the current expansion, there had been tensions between Joyn and the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. ProSiebenSat.1 had integrated content from these transmitters into his service without first asking for permission. These inconsistencies led to legal disputes, which were, however, resolved after the controversial content was removed. ProSiebenSat.1, however, sticks to his legal opinion.

The streaming market in change

Developments at Joyn come at a time when the streaming market is constantly changing. Providers such as Disney+ and WoW subscription show that streaming services not only offer their own but also content from other production houses. This often means that the rights to television content change, which makes it difficult for customers to keep an overview of available titles. In this context, production companies are now increasingly pursuing the approach of developing their own streaming services instead of selling their content to large providers.

These dynamics in the streaming sector require innovative approaches from providers such as Joyn in order to be able to survive in a competitive environment. The new availability of regional transmitters could therefore be a strategic step to tie users to the platform.
