Swiss with an expensive package: Customs caught import fraud in Weil am Rhein!
A civilian customs patrol of the main customs office Lörrach stopped a Swiss woman during a check in Weil am Rhein, who wanted to open in a post office with a package full of expensive electronics. When examining the package that she was supposed to deliver to her boss in Northern Germany, the officials discovered three smartphones, a laptop and a smartwatch with a total value of over 7,600 Swiss francs - everything new and original packaged!
Since the woman had not registered the goods, a tax criminal proceedings were initiated against her. It also has to pay import taxes of over 1,500 euros. Although she was allowed to continue travel, she must now wait for the outcome of the procedure. Customs warned that travelers should be clear about the customs registration obligations, especially when importing from non-EU countries. Ignorance does not protect against punishment!
