Storm warning for Ammerland: gusts of up to 90 km/h await the communities!

Storm warnings are currently on everyone's lips, especially in Ammerland. Today, October 4, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued a storm warning that is valid from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The affected communities are Apen, Bad Zwischenahn, Edewecht, Rastede, Westerstede and Wiefelstede. During this period, gusts of wind with speeds of up to 75 km/h are expected. In the vicinity of showers, gusts of up to 90 km/h could even be reached, which corresponds to a wind force of Bft 10. News.de even reports a DWD warning level 2 (orange), which indicates that spending time outdoors can be dangerous.

The current weather conditions are already uncomfortable: at 12 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 71 percent, the wind is blowing at 24 km/h. The forecasts for the afternoon and evening do not promise any improvement either, with consistently around 13 to 14 degrees and steadily increasing wind speeds of up to 27 km/h. In addition, in the hours before the storm warning, there was already an additional warning for continuous rain, which will last until midday. Rainfall amounts of between 30 and 45 liters per square meter were measured. A real reason for caution!

Preparations and warning recommendations

The DWD recommends that the population prepare for the squalls. Free-standing objects such as garden furniture and tents should be secured. You should also pay attention to falling objects to prevent possible injuries. These warnings are particularly important because the weather situation throughout Germany is currently described as unstable and windy to stormy. The weather situation is moving from the northern North Sea towards Denmark and will also move over Germany in the next few days. DWD reports that stormy gusts of between 60 and 95 km/h can be expected during the night.

For the drivers among us, it is advisable to pay attention to possible slippery roads that could be caused by the rains. There could also be strong winds combined with thunderstorms overnight and on Sunday. Winds will decrease inland, while stormy gusts are expected to continue along the coast. Even at high altitudes, such as the Brocken, hurricane-like gusts are possible, reaching speeds of up to 110 km/h.

Outlook and further developments

The weather is expected to continue to be unsettled for the next few days. Winds are expected to pick up again in inland areas on Sunday, while coastal regions and higher mountain areas will remain stormy until Monday. In the Alps there can even be snowfalls of up to 10 cm above 1500 m. All of these weather challenges make it clear that there will likely be changes in the weather in the next few days.
