Record at the popular hiking day: 1950 participants conquer the Siebengebirge!
Bad Honnef, Deutschland - On May 5, 2025, the 52nd Volkswanderag took place in the picturesque Siebengebirge, which was organized by the Bad Honnef ski club. The event, known as "seven in a prank", enabled the approximately 1950 participants to circle all peaks of the Siebengebirge. Even before the official start at 8 a.m., many participants, including numerous young people and families, were on site to pursue hiking pleasure.
The weather was ideal for outdoor activity, which certainly contributed to the record participation. Many participants viewed at the starting point at 6:45 a.m. to prepare for the route. The ski club does not want a mass event in the forest to avoid damage to nature. For this reason, a "hiking force" of students was used for order and security.
organization and security
Supported by around 60 helpers, the Bad Honnef ski club ensured that the event runs smoothly. The fire brigade and the Maltese relief service were also on site to guarantee security. Participants, including many dogs, moved, equipped with various headgear, on the route that led from the starting point to the Drachenfels, over the milk house and back into the valley.
If you chose a shorter route, you could switch to the route without Petersberg, Stenzelberg and Oilberg. At the Forsthaus on the Margarethenhöhe, a delicious meal was waiting for the hikers, which consisted of pea soup and boiling sausages. Christian Radünz and Martina Weiler needed 4 hours and 15 minutes for the route. All participants who mastered the longer path received a golden medal.
special participants and records
The popular hiking day was not only shaped by the many participants, but also by the diversity of the participants. Ann-Kathrin Wisniewski was there with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. In addition, Kerstin Elisabeth Ulmen set up a new route record with a term of just three hours at 11 a.m. The vegetarian meals, prepared by a committed catering team under the direction of Julia Zeisner-Mahal, was prepared for the rush of the first target runners and offered around 80 liters of stew and sandwiches.
In addition, it was planned to plant a new tree in the Siebengebirge for every starter, which underlines the environmentally conscious commitment of the ski club. The Volkswandertag was not only the high number of participants, but also in the festive atmosphere that strengthens the sense of community when hiking.
In the wider hiking scene in Germany, there is an increasing popularity of such event. The Siebengebirge is part of a list of around 150 hiking events annually, which take place in Germany, and which are also increasingly addressing new formats and target groups, such as hiking with the family or as part of a team.
