Topping -out ceremony for the new indoor pool in Walle: a milestone for Bremen!
Walle, Bremen, Deutschland - On May 16, 2025, the topping -out ceremony for the new indoor pool took place in Walle as part of the “Neue Westbad” project. The celebrations were accompanied by carpenter Tim-Constantin Siefke with a traditional judgment. Ulrich Mäurer, the SPD Senator for the Interior and Sport, praised the progress of the construction work and reflected on the discussions in the citizenship of eleven years ago, in which the decision was made for a new building. Despite higher costs, this proved to be far -sighted than the more than the originally planned 25 million euros. The construction period is 36 months.
The old Westbad complex was ceremoniously adopted on January 1, 2023, and the official start of construction was announced in mid-April 2023 by Senator Anja Stahmann. It is planned that the indoor pool will be opened in spring 2026. Extensive modern facilities are intended for the new bathroom, including a large swimming pool with six 25-meter tracks, a jump with a 1-meter board and a 3-meter board as well as various smaller pools, which will also be available in the outdoor pool. In order to achieve as many users as possible, 50 percent of the time of use is reserved for school swimming lessons, while the rest is accessible to the general public.
modern equipment and energetic standards
The new Westbad will meet the highest energetic standards. The planned attractions also include two course pools with integrated lifting soils and a parent-child area that is designed on 160 square meters and with a water surface of 40 square meters. The gastronomy will be connected directly to the outdoor pool, and a joint foyer with the ice rink is intended.
Uwe Siefke, the technical director of the Bremen baths, and architect Elisabeth Böckmann informed about the progress during the top -up festival. The highly moist conditions in autumn initially affected the foundation of the pile, but the construction work is now on schedule.
Bath concept 2035 and planned new buildings in Bremen
With the “Bath Concept 2035”,Bremen is pursuing ambitious plans, which also include the demolition and new construction of various indoor and outdoor pools. The focus is clearly on the construction of new facilities instead of on expensive renovations. According to estimates, these could cost 120 million euros, while new buildings are considered more economical and climate -friendly.
The identity of Bremen Baths on the overall project aims to create modern district baths that not only meet the needs of citizens, but are also competitive to leisure and wellness baths in the surrounding area. The financing of the new buildings has not yet been finally clarified, and the operating company plans to check the plans for the leisure pool in Bremen-Vegesack until autumn.
