Construction site chaos in Celle: traffic jams and closures from September 8th!

Traffic disruptions and construction sites are currently affecting the Celle district. Fortunately, this is happening in numerous areas in order to sustainably improve the infrastructure. This will become particularly clear from September 8, 2023, when the full closure between Eldingen and Metzingen comes into force. This measure serves to build a cycle path and also includes comprehensive road renovation and barrier-free conversion of the bus stops. This is a response to the increasing demands on the transport infrastructure.

The renovation of the path on Dammaschwiese, better known as Seufzerallee, will also start on September 8, 2023. Passers-by will receive a new water-bound path surface made of quarry stone sand, and the work should be completed in around three weeks. Sprengerstrasse in Celle will also be completely closed for sewer work from September 10th to 26th, 2023, which will affect not only car traffic, but also cyclists and buses.

Renovation measures in detail

Another major project is coming up from September 8, 2025: the comprehensive road renovation of Rehbockstrasse in Celle will be accompanied by partial and full closures. Especially here it will be important for residents and commuters to keep an eye on alternative routes in order to avoid delays in daily traffic.

But that's not all. While the bridges on roads K46, K47 and K49 are being renovated by October 2023, traffic will temporarily be routed to one lane. The Wilhelm-Heinichen-Ring will also be used for around three years, during which traffic will run in single-lane mode. As part of the renovation of Breite Straße, supply lines, street lighting and house connection lines will also be replaced; A construction period of two years is planned, which began on July 8, 2024.

Current challenges in road traffic

Current information on the construction sites in Celle is constantly updated, as Celle Zeitung reports. Although there are currently no reports on hazard types, it is advisable to always pay attention to slippery areas or obstacles on the road that could affect road safety. In addition, visibility is often limited by weather conditions, which can be a common cause of accidents.

The federal government recently responded to the investment backlog in transport infrastructure, which has already reached 53 billion euros in 2024. This is an alarming increase compared to 2011, when it was 25 billion euros. Bauindustrie highlights that only 29 percent of municipalities have been able to guarantee the maintenance of the transport infrastructure in the last five years. There is clearly a certain need for action here in order to continue to be mobile for future generations.

If we look at the upcoming construction projects and the challenges, it becomes clear that a rethinking of transport infrastructure needs to take place in Celle too. However, the ongoing measures are a step in the right direction and could significantly improve the quality of life in our region.
