MBC Syntainics brings German champion Kresimir Nikic as center!
At the Syntainics MBC in Cologne there is a breath of fresh air with the signing of Kresimir Nikic, a talented center. The 26-year-old, who comes from Spanish second division club CB Zamora, will strengthen the team this season. At 2.13 meters tall, Nikic not only has impressive measurements, but also an impressive career in German basketball.
Nikic played for Alba Berlin from 2017 to 2024, where he made a name for himself as a successful player. During his time at Alba, he became German champion three times (2020, 2021, 2022) and won the cup twice (2020, 2022) - a record that not many can achieve. Last season, Nikic played 33 games for Zamora, where he averaged 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in approximately 19 minutes of playing time. These values prove that he was able to assert himself well in the Spanish league. Loud MDR Head coach Marco Ramondino plans to use Nikic as the third center behind an as-yet-unnamed starter and John Bryant.
A man with experience
Nikic made his debut in the easyCredit BBL on December 29, 2017 against Braunschweig. In recent years he has played a total of 73 appearances in the BBL and 41 games in the Euroleague. His best season was the current one in the BBL 2023/24, in which he contributed an average of 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 28 games for Alba Berlin. He moved from Cibona Zagreb to Germany as an 18-year-old and has since established himself in the top leagues. He will now bring this experience into the coming season with Syntainics MBC, which has a broader and stronger selection of players in the squad with Nikic. The Syntainics MBC squad for the 2025/26 season is currently composed as follows:
- Point Guard: Ilias Amin
- Shooting Guard: Akeem Vargas
- Small Forward: Marcus Foster, Mika Siegert
- Power Forward: Collin Welp
- Center: John Bryant, Kresimir Nikic
The basketball landscape in Germany
Basketball has become increasingly popular in Germany in recent years. Statistics show that the number of spectators in the Bundesliga increased from 4,323 in the 2013/2014 season to 4,836 in the 2023/2024 season - and interest in basketball is increasing, especially among young adults. A good 19% of the population is now interested in sport, and among 18 to 29 year olds this figure is even 23%.
The successes of the German national teams, both at the World Cup, which ended with victory against Serbia in 2023, and the best placings at the Olympic Games, have certainly contributed to this boom. Germany is currently in third place in the FIBA world rankings - a whole new dimension that is also fueling enthusiasm for basketball in cities like Cologne, where the local heroes are already raising great expectations ahead of the season.
With the signing of Kresimir Nikic, Syntainics MBC has brought a valuable player into its ranks. Fans can look forward to the coming season as Nikic and the team show on the field that they are ready to achieve great things under the leadership of Marco Ramondino.
