Goal festival in Nordhorn: Schalke 04 wins 9-1 in the friendly!
A high-scoring football festival in Nordhorn: FC Schalke 04 won its first test match under new head coach Miron Muslic on June 28th 9-1 against the “Best of Grafschaft” team. The game attracted around 6,000 spectators who were able to enjoy an impressive performance from their team. Schalke quickly took control and had their first big chance in the 12th minute through Pape Meïssa Ba, whose header hit the post. But it wasn't long before Ba, together with his teammates, really stirred up the offensive.
In the first half, it was Ba who scored the first goal with a header in the 24th minute after a precise cross from Amin Younes. Younes went one better in the 26th minute by increasing the score to 2-0. More goals followed: Henning Matriciani, who also scored with a header in the 30th minute, and Ba, who made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute before the break. Throughout the first half, the new defensive three that Muslic chose for this friendly impressed, and the players gained valuable experience in this new system, which differs from the previous back four. Muslic is convinced that the back three fits the player profiles well after last season was anything but rosy with 62 goals conceded.
Comeback and change
After the half-time break, Muslic made a lively change and brought in eleven fresh players. The second half began with Timo Becker, who celebrated his comeback after more than three and a half years and made it 5-0 in the 47th minute. Peter Remmert, Anton Donkor, Mauro Zalazar and Bojan Potnar then scored to make it 9-0 before Grafschaft scored a consolation goal in the 85th minute. The Schalke defense occasionally showed weaknesses in these crucial moments, but Ron Schallenberg remained calm and saw no reason to panic.
In addition to the positive performance on the pitch, there was also news in the area of transfers. Muslic plans to sign two new players, including Nikola Katic from FC Zurich, whose signing is expected before the training camp in Neustift im Stubaital on July 7th. The focus is on a transfer fee of around 400,000 euros.
Looking ahead
Schalke has set itself clear goals: after a difficult season, the club wants to fight for promotion back to the Bundesliga in the new season. Preparations are already in full swing. The next test match against 1. FC Bocholt is on July 5th. The team will then hold a training camp in Mittersill, which will also include the “Blue and White Night” for fans.
Schalke fans can look forward to the coming season and the team has shown that they are ready to give everything to achieve their goals. It remains to be seen whether this will be successful, but one thing is certain: the first steps after the summer break are worth taking notice.
