Family happiness at the zoo: Sabrina fulfills her last wish with the children
In these days, when the topics of health and family are coming together more than ever, the touching story of Sabrina from Lower Saxony is the focus. The mid-forties-year-old, who is suffering from serious cancer, has little time left, and her wishes are clear: she wants to spend unforgettable moments with her four children. Today, July 10th, 2025, a visit to Hanover Zoo was organized for the entire family to enjoy a carefree family day. Sabrina is supported by the Wish Car Lower Saxony team, who take care of her needs and ensure that she has everything she needs to make this day a special one. A total of 20 people, including Sabrina's family, make this trip possible, which is more than just a simple visit to the zoo - it's an escape from harsh reality into a world full of joy and memories.
Particular attention is paid to the desire to spend the day intensively with the children. During the excursion you have the opportunity to take a boat trip on the Zambezi and observe the polar bears in Youkonbay. Sabrina not only enjoys time for herself, but also finds happiness in seeing the smiles and joy in her children's eyes. A beautiful moment culminates when a chimpanzee in the monkey enclosure sits close to the window and, as if by chance, sends a burst of strength to Sabrina - a truly magical moment in the zoo.
Memories for eternity
The day ends with a symbolic gift: Sabrina receives a souvenir picture with her family in the wishing carriage, which she places on her bedside table in her hospice. These memories are priceless and provide comfort in difficult times. The Lower Saxony Wish Car is part of a larger network that ensures that people like Sabrina can fulfill their last wishes, be it the last visit to the zoo or the last time seeing the sea.
The concept of the wish car also finds its place in other initiatives. A particularly notable partner is the Malteser Herzenswunsch ambulance, which also wants to give terminally ill people a good time. Here, matters of the heart are appealed to and every effort is made to fulfill the last wishes from the “bucket list” of those affected - often with the help of specially trained volunteers who put a lot of heart and soul into the matter. They also work entirely on a voluntary basis to create unforgettable experiences. Malteser confirms that it is thanks that drives everyone involved.
Strong together through society
Also worth mentioning is the role of companies such as LSW Holding GmbH & Co from Wolfsburg, which has refrained from giving Christmas presents since 2010 and instead supports important social projects. These donations of 2,500 euros to institutions such as the Wish Car Lower Saxony help to create the necessary infrastructure so that wishes can be fulfilled even in the last phase of life. Managing Director Sybille Schönbach and Dr. Frank Kästner, managing director of LSW, emphasizes the need for this financial support and the importance of volunteering in aid organizations. Their actions underline the power of the community, which stands together even in difficult times and shows signs of hope.
Overall, you can see how important it is to work together and with a lot of heart to ensure that the last wishes of sick people become reality. The Lower Saxony Wish Car and similar initiatives show that you can discover the good in life even in difficult times.
