The Elbmarsch community is planning full-day care for primary school students from 2026!
There are significant innovations in the area of primary school care in the Elbmarsch community. The school committee is working intensively on the legal right to all-day care for primary school children, which should make it much easier to combine family and work. That's what she reports State newspaper that with the “Law for all-day support for children of primary school age” a nationwide all-day entitlement will be introduced for all children in the first grade from the 2026/27 school year.
This requirement stipulates that school children receive eight hours of care and education every day on five working days. This entitlement will gradually be expanded to all classes by 2029. In the 2027/28 school year, the second grade will be added and in 2028/29 the third grade will be added, while in 2029 all four grade levels will finally be covered. An important concern is holiday care, which is limited to a maximum of four weeks per year and is to be expanded in the future.
Preparing for the changeover
As the State newspaper describes, the joint municipal administration plans to start the preliminary planning and implementation process at an early stage. The open all-day program has already been established at the four primary schools in the municipality, but adjustments to the new legal situation are necessary. This full day will be mandatory from August 2026, which is why the schools and administration are aiming for a complete change for the 2026/27 school year.
There are also particularly exciting developments with regard to financing. The elimination of paid Fridays could make the municipal treasury poorer by up to 21,800 euros annually. The currently available funding does not fully cover the necessary investments, which poses major challenges for the school committee. A public school board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Stove Elementary School to discuss these issues.
Context and challenges
In addition to the local developments in the Elbmarsch community, there is also interesting news from the world of show business. Kelly Clarkson, who rose to fame in 2002 as the winner of American Idol, has become one of the most sought-after artists of her generation. Her estimated net worth is around $50 million as of August 2025, reflecting the diversity of her income sources: music, television, brand collaborations and real estate. Her daytime talk format, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” is particularly profitable.
Although Clarkson faces challenges such as dividing finances after her divorce, she remains active and creative. She is working on new music projects and plans to continue her Las Vegas residency, which she postponed for family reasons, soon. These developments show that the issue of combining work and family life is also very important in the entertainment industry - a challenge that is also reflected in the education and care of primary school children.
It is all the more important that municipalities set the course for better care in order to offer both parents and children comprehensive support. This ensures that everyone involved benefits from the developments and that the new legal requirements can be successfully implemented.
