Nature Week in the Wildeshauser Geest: Discover and Protect!
A very special event is taking place this year in the beautiful Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park! The 2nd Lower Saxony Nature Week, organized by the Lower Saxony Bingo Environmental Foundation, invites all nature enthusiasts to get to know the diversity of the local flora and fauna better. From June 21st to July 1st, the park will host a colorful program that promises a real festival for young and old.
A total of twelve different events are planned, including sporty bike tours and relaxed hikes. A special highlight will be the “Nature Journaling” workshop, in which participants will learn to creatively record their nature experiences. Another exciting date is2nd Hunte action dayon Sunday, June 29, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., whose motto is “Discover and Protect.” Visitors can discover the region around Wiekau, which is part of the “Diversity in Geest and Moor” project.

The event program is supported by numerous institutions and associations, including rural adult education, Landvolk, the nature conservation association Ipen e.V., the Moosgrün Academy and the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park Association. For those who want to experience nature regularly, the Wildeshauser Geest offers numerous opportunities. With an area of 1,530 km², the park is the largest nature park in Lower Saxony and impresses with a varied landscape with forests, moors and historic large stone graves. Cyclists will find over 20 well-signposted themed trails that cleverly connect towns and sights. It's not just adults who get their money's worth. Anja-Louisa Vogt will present her children's book “The Little Unlucky Fungus” at three schools as part of her reading tour. The book imaginatively tells the story of a mushroom and introduces young readers to the wonders of the natural park world. This Nature Week is another example of how Lower Saxony, with its 14 nature parks covering around 11,000 square kilometers, promotes nature and biotope protection as well as biodiversity.
