Drunk driver in Stade: 1.7 per mille and dangerous driving!

On Sunday night, a black Hyundai was checked by the police in Hollern-Twielenfleth after the vehicle was noticed for its unsafe driving style on state road 111 in the direction of Stade. During the check it turned out that the 41-year-old driver stated that she had “only” drunk two beers before driving. However, the breath alcohol test showed an astonishing 1.7 per mille - a value that is well above the permissible limit and led to the accusation of drunk driving. The officers seized the vehicle key to prevent her from driving any further and took the driver to the Elbe Klinikum Stade to have a blood sample taken.

Another incident occurred on the same Saturday evening when a 45-year-old driver in Dohren was checked by the police after he almost collided with a patrol car. During this check it also emerged that the driver was drunk - his breath alcohol test showed an alarming level of 2.19 per mille. He now faces several criminal charges.

Legal consequences of drunk driving

In Germany, a blood alcohol level of just 0.5 per mille is considered an administrative offense, which is punishable for a first-time violation with a fine of 500 euros and a one-month driving ban. If the level is 1.1 per mille or more, you are absolutely unfit to drive and are liable to prosecution, which can lead to serious consequences. ADAC makes the drastic consequences clear: the withdrawal of the driving license, points in Flensburg as well as fines or even prison sentences can be the result.

It becomes particularly dangerous at a level of over 1.6 per mille. Not only is the driving license automatically revoked, but a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is also necessary to restore driving ability. It is important to know that insurance coverage may also be limited in the event of accidents caused by alcohol. According to Kanzlei Heskamp, motor vehicle liability insurance can claim recourse under certain circumstances, while fully comprehensive insurance often only pays partially or not at all.

The alcohol limits at a glance

  • 0,0 Promille: Absolutes Alkoholverbot für Fahranfänger und unter 21-Jährige
  • 0,3 Promille: Mögliche relative Fahruntüchtigkeit
  • 0,5 – 1,09 Promille: Ordnungswidrigkeit mit Bußgeldern und Fahrverbot
  • Ab 1,1 Promille: Absolute Fahruntüchtigkeit und strafbar
  • Ab 1,6 Promille: MPU zwingend erforderlich

The incidents in Stade and Dohren make it clear how important responsible behavior in road traffic is. Drunk driving not only endangers the lives of drivers, but also those of other road users. It is therefore advisable to avoid the driver's seat when in doubt.
