Dangerous big cat spotted near Geiseltalsee – warnings from the authorities!

An extraordinary sight is currently causing excitement in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. A big cat was spotted near the harbor at Geiseltalsee in Braunsbedra on Friday evening. The authorities are alarmed and have launched a comprehensive search for the predator, as Radio Köln reports. A caller shared a video of the suspected animal on social media, which brought authorities to the scene. The head of the security department, Sabine Faulstich, confirmed that it was not a fake.

The situation resulted in the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Control issuing a warning. The police are on site with a large-scale operation and a helicopter to monitor the area. Citizens were advised via the Nina warning app not to approach the animal and to avoid meadows and forests. Sightings should be reported immediately to the fire and rescue service control center on 112.

Which cat is it?

It is still unclear whether the animal spotted is a puma. However, experts have confirmed that it is definitely a big cat after a credible sighting near the marina. This is reminiscent of a similar incident in Kleinmachnow two years ago, where a supposed predator ultimately turned out to be a wild boar. Since there is no zoo in Braunsbedra, the origin of the animal remains a mystery.

Big cats are a special subfamily of cats. They include species such as lions, tigers and leopards, which are distinguished from small cats by their size. According to Das Tierlexikon, big cats are able to roar, which gives them a special place in the animal kingdom.

The role of cougars

Although pumas, which are native to North and South America, are not classic big cats like lions and tigers, they could play a role in this case. These animals are known for their adaptability and wide habitat. According to Tierfreunde, the puma does not belong to the family of real big cats, but it is often associated with them.

The ongoing search for the big cat is fueling many questions and uncertainties. The experts are in close contact to solve the mystery surrounding the spotted predator. Until a clear identification is made, it remains important that the population remains vigilant and follows the recommendations of the authorities.
