Dispose of leaves for free: Verden provides containers for residents!
For many garden owners, autumn means the challenge of getting the falling leaves under control. In Verden and the surrounding towns, the city administration supports residents with free leaf containers. These measures are intended not only to benefit the environment, but also to ensure that sidewalks and streets remain clean. District newspaper reports that the containers will be set up at several locations. For example, in Borstel, Dauelsen, Eissel, and the core city, leaves and green waste can be disposed of from November to December.
However, sweeping leaves is an obligation for property owners. You should make sure that the leaves are not swept into the gutter, as this is not only unsightly but can also result in a fine. In some regions, sweeping sidewalks can even be delegated to residents by statute, such as ZDF clarified. This shows how important each individual's responsibility is for the cleanliness of the streets.

Responsibility of residents
Another point that should not be ignored: residents are obliged to sweep sidewalks and, if necessary, half of the roadway. The city takes over the cleaning of main roads and public spaces, but residents in settlements and residential streets are under a lot of pressure because the city cleaning service is not present everywhere. Catalog of fines highlights that this is not just a question of decency, but can also have legal consequences. Failure to comply could result in fines. From fine dust that seems to attract leaves and weeds to wet leaves that can result in clogged storm drains, the responsibility is many.
Remember: Wet leaves can cause unnecessary disposal costs, and last year an impressive 373 tons of rubbish were delivered to Verden, which not only meant a lot of effort for the waste yard, but also put a strain on the city's budget.
Finally, it is advisable to think about the environment when disposing of leaves. Garden owners should remember to leave the leaves on their property if possible in order to protect nature. An organic waste bin can also be used for disposal, although it is not always sufficient.
