Red Bulls show rise: Murphy inspires with first goal!

The mood among the Red Bulls is currently brilliant: the team is showing a lot of self-confidence after a strenuous start to the season. Defender Ryan Murphy, who has only been playing at EHC Red Bull Munich since July 2025, plays a significant role in this. After an exciting 5-4 win against Schwenningen, in which Murphy scored his first goal for the Bulls, he spoke of “redemption”. The team has improved significantly in critical situations, which is also evident in the last few games in which they have been able to continuously collect points.

Although they weren't always at their best at the start of the season, the Red Bulls have now scored points for the sixth game in a row. “We have changed the situation,” Murphy announced after the last game, in which the Red Bulls were still down 3-1 after the first period. He added that it is important to remain positive even in such moments and focus on the remaining two thirds.

Difficult times for Wolfsburg

A look at the Red Bulls' opponents, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, shows that they have their own challenge. After a strong start in which they were second in the table after matchday 7, they have now suffered a negative run of five defeats in a row. Last Friday, Wolfsburg was able to end this low with a 3-1 win against Iserlohn, but this was followed by a bitter 0-6 defeat in Straubing on Sunday, which turned out to be their worst of the season.

At the top, Tyler Gaudet is one of the Grizzly players, who has already collected six points in seven games since the first duel in Munich. Defender Ethan Prow also plays an offensive role and contributes significantly to the team's success. Goalkeeper Hannibal Weitzmann has achieved a catch rate of 88.4 percent in four games and is slightly ahead of Dustin Strahlmeier, whose rate is 88.0 percent.

Positive trends at the Red Bulls

The latest developments at the Red Bulls are nevertheless encouraging. Taro Hirose has impressed with ten points in the last seven games, followed by Chris DeSousa with nine and Tobias Rieder, who has scored a total of eight points, including five goals. These statistics are a positive sign for the Munich team, who recently won the last duels against the Grizzlys with four wins in a row - even though the last meeting three and a half weeks ago was lost 5:7.

Ryan Murphy, who has gained numerous experiences in the NHL and AHL during his career, clearly feels comfortable in Munich. He has already played 176 games in the NHL and has played for teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and New Jersey Devils. In his junior years, he was an outstanding defenseman who made a splash with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL and was subsequently selected 12th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.

This positive development that both Murphy and the entire team is experiencing gives hope for a successful season. With a good hand, a lot of team spirit and of course a bit of luck on the ice, the Red Bulls could still cause quite a stir in the league.
