Wolfsburg's architectural highlights: Discover green oases and construction projects!
Something is happening in Wolfsburg – and not too close! The Lower Saxony Chamber of Architects invites you to the nationwide architecture period at the end of June Architecture Day reaches its moving climax on Sunday, June 29th. The event not only promises exciting insights, but also a colorful program for architecture enthusiasts.
Architects and the Forum Architektur Wolfsburg offer guided tours that open both the eyes and the mind. A special highlight is a bike tour led by city planning officer Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. Here, participants can not only travel by bike, but also discover construction projects that are not open to the public. One of the stops is the Hellwinkel terraces, which have already been completed in the first construction phase.
Discover diversity
“Building diversity” is the nationwide motto for Architecture Day 2025. This gives the event a fresh coat of paint because it is about illuminating creative solutions to different topics and challenges. It is an opportunity to promote dialogue about architecture – everywhere in Germany. The Architecture Day is known for attracting a large audience who take the opportunity to explore various projects on site and talk to architects and builders.
In Wolfsburg, two exciting construction projects were selected for Architecture Day: the central outdoor area in the Wiesengarten residential area and the Eastgate office complex on Dieselstrasse. The outdoor area, which was designed by the Berlin office Pro Garten, aims to be a car-free meeting place for families and children, equipped with a playground that was co-designed by children under the motto “Wild meadow confusion”. Tours are scheduled for 3:30 p.m., 4 and 4:30 p.m.
A look into the future
The Eastgate office complex, designed by the Wehmeyer planning office from Braunschweig, will house a five-story office building with modern work environments, a conference center and even test laboratories for automotive development. One can be particularly excited about the opening in September 2024, as it marks the first building block in a comprehensive, complex construction project. Tours of Eastgate take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
To round off the program, there will be a guided tour of the art museum today, June 19th, at 5:30 p.m. This event is part of the “Attention postmodern!” series, which is organized in collaboration with the Forum Architektur. Under the leadership of Professor Wilhelm Meyer and Ute Lefarth-Polland, participants gain exciting insights into the architecture of the art museum and the town hall expansion. The meeting point is Hollerplatz, and best of all: no registration is required.
Wolfsburg is not only a city of modern construction, but also a place where culture and architecture go hand in hand. Definitely worth a visit!
